Why we like this Hotel
The range of activities here is astounding; from canoeing on the lake; hiking or cycling mountain routes; soaking in a nearby onsen to exhilarating tours by motorbike or helicopter, this place has it all! The owner practised yoga in India in the 1960s, which is why yoga – uncommon to find in Japan – and meditation classes are offered here. As well as enjoying time just spent absorbing the views from your private villa, you can also try your hand at playing traditional Japanese instruments; ikebana flower arranging and local pottery techniques.
WellStayed Perks TBC
Sasayuri-Ann’s owner is a practising Shugendo monk, and built the retreat with the vision of creating a haven of spirituality and mindfulness. There are numerous wellness inspired activities on offer for guests to enjoy, some more mainstream, such as zen yoga, and other more unique and quintessentially Japanese such as ikebana flower arranging, or a traditional Shugendo fire cleansing ceremony practised for over 1,300 years. This wellness retreat in Japan allows its guests to appreciate both their serene natural surroundings as well as the region’s unique cultural heritage.
One of the most inspiring and unique activities guests can partake in is a spiritual hike to nearby 48 Waterfalls. For additional benefits and grounding effects, guests are encouraged to go barefoot if they dare!
Each villa has been individually decorated and retains its own unique personality. Zao is an Edo period 200-year old thatched house, updated with modern comforts but retaining its original charm. Ozunu on the other hand is a contemporary reimagining of a traditional thatched Japanese home, it has been constructed around a tea house and is surrounded by its own exquisite Japanese zen garden.
The property is ideal for self-catering with an onsite kitchen, alternatively delicious, healthy Japanese meals can also be served in-villa from nearby restaurants, including Michelin Star Manso.
